TRANSFORMATION LEAD
Leadership on Demand: Precise, flexible and effective execution of your projects - both complex or straightforward.
International Management Competence from Munich & Bavarian Forrest
WHO AM I?
I am not an HR consultant. I am an experienced executive who connects Organization, Transformation, People, Technology & Leadership.
In a dedicated and mutually agreed flexible engagement as a Senior Expert and Leader, I take responsibility wherever it is needed, from solving immediate challenges to leading complex transformation.
My strength lies in connecting strategic thinking with operational reality. Years of diverse industry experience have taught me where shortcuts work, and just as importantly, where they do not. I understand the perspective of the boardroom as well as the realities of execution and can operate effectively at every level of an organization.
I do not stop at analysis and recommendations. I stay, take ownership and turn strategy into execution and sustainable impact. I combine deep functional expertise with broad experience, forward thinking and the ability to connect different perspectives and paradigms. Strong relationships, sustainable solutions and compliance as a natural foundation of how I work are simply part of good leadership.
Where additional expertise is needed, I complement my own capabilities with specialized consultancies and selected experts from my network.
That is Fractional Leadership to me: building a reliable and resilient long term business relationship, taking responsibility where it is needed and creating impact that lasts.
On this website, you won’t find generic methodology recommendations, knowledge demos, and certainly no AI-generated content.
Instead, you get to know the person who brings all of that knowledge and experience to the table and knows how to apply it to your specific context.
Because from my perspective, that is what really matters: not presenting you with “10 Steps to AI Transformation”, but understanding which steps your organization actually needs.
Many consulting websites look remarkably similar today: minimalist business imagery, the right keywords, perfectly optimized. Professional, but often without much personality. That is exactly what I did not want. In the AI era, I believe the person behind the expertise will matter more again: clear judgement, courage, years of experience and a distinct point of view. We will increasingly need people who can connect what others still see as separate. HR. Organization. Transformation. Technology. AI. Governance. People. To me, these are no longer separate disciplines. They are one interconnected system. And to shape that system, you need to have experienced and understood its different sides. Almost anyone can build a perfect website today. Mine is not perfect, but I built it myself. I simply wanted to try. Real transformation, however, cannot be staged. It requires experience from real situations: navigating complexity, connecting different worlds and people, engaging in constructive disagreement without losing your position, and making decisions when not all the answers are available. To me, top management is therefore not about managing expectations upwards. It is about taking personal responsibility: for real decisions and their real consequences. That is why this website is personal too. Click through and have a little experience along the way. It does not take away from professional substance. Quite the opposite. And if you would like to go deeper afterwards, simply request the password via the button. The Deep Dive gives you access to my detailed competence and service portfolio, CV and selected project details that I deliberately do not make publicly available.
DARKA MARQUARDT STYLE
When something really matters to you, do you follow your attention span? Or do you take the time to dive a little deeper?
Exactly.
Your business certainly matters to you, so I hope you will take the time to get a sense of who I am as a person. I have laid it out for you: This is how I think. How I work. How I lead. What I have experienced.
This is the person you bring into your organization. The person who will work with your people.
This is not about the ego. My personality is no longer an addition to my professional profile. It is part of my positioning and, when put to work, one of the reasons I succeed.

LEADERSHIP ROLES
ARE CHANGING.
A New Corporate Reality
A few years ago, I would never have imagined presenting my professional profile through a website. Or that it would become necessary to articulate my own value so clearly. I thought strong results and a proven track record would speak for themselves.
Today, I know that is no longer enough. You need to understand your profile, articulate your value and make it visible.
A new reality has also emerged within organizations, sometimes almost unnoticed. In many companies, internal resources and capabilities are no longer sufficient to cover the full range of challenges that will shape their future.
The evolution of the CHRO role is a good example. What was once a traditional HR leadership function has become a strategic role closely connected to the business, bringing together organization, transformation, culture, technology, reporting and governance to enable broader business ambitions.
But another role is now emerging.
One that many companies have not yet consciously recognized, even though they are already working with AI. It will not only be about technology, processes, structures, efficiency and investment decisions. It will equally involve employee engagement, performance culture, ownership, governance and the mitigation of business risks. This role cannot simply be anchored within IT. Its impact is created precisely where different disciplines intersect and can no longer be considered in isolation. Sooner or later, organizations will need to address this.
Let’s take a closer look at both roles.

BUILD.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BRING ME IN?
I connect the points that matter most to your organization and get people moving with them.
I orchestrate strategically relevant change in a pragmatic way and take responsibility for what happens between strategy and reality.
This can happen within a specific project or over a longer period as a Fractional CHRO or Chief AI Officer. Because these roles are changing too.

CHRO

CAIO
For me, a modern CHRO has long been much more than the head of an HR function. The role connects business, organization and people with structures, processes, technology, employment law, governance, performance, talent, culture and transformation. It spans everything from strategy to payroll, from the Board to the Works Council, and from growth and international expansion to restructuring and crisis management. The real value of the role lies in turning all these disciplines into a functioning whole. An organization in which services work reliably, structures and responsibilities are clear, risks are identified early and avoided wherever possible, and people enjoy their work, develop and are able to perform at their best. At the same time, the CHRO helps shape how a company is perceived internally and externally and the standard it represents as both an employer and an organization. The role also carries a particular responsibility: bringing the employee perspective into business decisions without losing sight of the business itself. People & Culture are, of course, part of it. But CHRO level means considerably more. It requires deep expertise across very different disciplines, strategic and methodological competence, and above all the ability to see how things connect. To know what needs to be brought together, what should be developed, what needs to be built for the long term, and what sometimes simply needs to be done quickly and pragmatically. Today, this naturally also includes a strong understanding of the business, confidence in working with numbers, KPIs and reporting, and the ability to understand and manage People topics in terms of their business and financial impact. A strong CHRO therefore does not simply lead an HR function. A CHRO builds the organizational conditions that enable a company to operate effectively, evolve and deliver sustainable performance.
The role of the Chief AI Officer is similarly demanding if it is to be filled well. Why do we need this role in the first place? Hardly any organization can seriously distance itself from AI today. But successful AI adoption does not happen simply because a company buys and implements technology. Technology is only one part of the equation. People, processes, responsibilities, compliance, governance, ethics, law, data and technology all need to work together in a coordinated way, while also being tailored to the specific organization, its business model and its risk profile. AI is therefore not purely a technology topic. It is a multidisciplinary business challenge. And that is precisely where the complexity lies. Someone needs to understand these different disciplines and have enough practical experience to recognize their interdependencies and implications. It requires the ability to connect these worlds, provide direction, establish the right tools and structures, and ensure that responsibility does not remain with one single function but is embedded throughout the organization. That, to me, is the role of a Chief AI Officer. This person does not need to execute every discipline personally. But they do need to understand and orchestrate them, bringing together the right experts, decisions and responsibilities. The role creates the framework within which AI can be used responsibly, effectively and with genuine value for the business. A strong Chief AI Officer is therefore a little like the conductor of a digital symphony orchestra: they do not need to play every instrument themselves. But they need to understand how the instruments work together, when each one is needed, and ensure that the result is not a collection of individual voices, but a coherent whole. Or even better: she. 😉 Feedback geben
NEW MINDSET IS:
THE FUTURE OF LEADERSHIP IS FRACTIONAL.
And this does not always require a full time role. Fractional Leadership makes senior expertise available when an organization may not need it five days a week, but cannot or does not want to miss out on its experience and impact.
If this fits your situation, feel free to reach out. I will be happy to explain the details and show you how Fractional Leadership can work exceptionally well for both sides in practice.

People × Business × Finance × Data × Technology
Most organizational problems don't exist within a single function. They emerge between them: at the interfaces.
That's where I mostly work.
Structures and processes are equaly important as working people. In combination with a good communication structures and processes have two advantages. They ensure that the (1) performance can be manifested at all. They also (2) calm working people.
My work is in the middle of this value creation.

CONTACT.
At a working life full of passion, travel,
great teams, cool projects and memories
that have stayed with me.
Throughout my career, I have repeatedly taken on complex situations and difficult challenges. Carrying that responsibility was made easier by the fact that I almost always managed to build teams with energy, a desire to grow and a shared sense of purpose. Creativity, a strong sense of togetherness and also humor in our everyday work kept giving us new energy. In the past, changing employers frequently was often seen as a flaw. Fortunately, the way we look at this has changed. For me, moving on was never an end in itself. I wanted to learn, grow, understand new contexts and keep taking on new challenges rather than stay out of habit in a place where there was nothing new left for me to learn. I am aware that not everyone has that freedom or wants to take that kind of risk. I chose to take it, time and again, and today I am glad I did. Through the many projects, companies, countries, people and very different situations I have experienced, something has emerged that I would not want to miss: an enormous wealth of experience and countless wonderful memories of a working life that has fulfilled me both professionally and personally. Perhaps that is exactly why I have always enjoyed working. Not because everything was always easy or positive, but because there was almost always something to move forward, something to learn, something to shape and something to achieve together. And that is still true today.
